24 gauge Pittsburgh Machine
Avoiding the Wavy Hammer over edge of a Pittsburgh by using a Model that’s closer to the gauge being used
Have you ever looked at the Pittsburgh Seam and notice that the Hammer Over Edge seemed a bit wavy?
I have but really didn’t think too much of it although I’ve always heard shops having to use a screwdriver or other means to open that pocket up when seating the Right Angle Flange/ male Pittsburgh.
I was in Louisville recently and a shop was making Radius Elbows. They had just run a female Pittsburgh Seam on each edge of each piece and were about to run it thru the 3 ft Pexto Roller. When they were rolling a radius on the two blanks that will serve as the Heel and Throat of a Radius Elbow, the owner mentioned “I’d like to get a model 24 ga Pittsburgh Machine”. I was surprised because he had 3 of the standard Model 20 ga machines.
