(Penned shortly after his death in 1953 and was recording in Conklin board meeting minutes)
“This company since its organization has shown a remarkable and continuous growth. Much of this success must be attributed to Mr. Thompson, who began working for Mr. Charles A. Conklin and Mr. J.N. Goddard in 1895 and served this company faithfully from its inception until his death, at which time he was its President.
Conklin is a unique company in many ways. This quality of uniqueness is not by accident but reflects accurately the character of those who have guided it. Its growth and success has not been heralded in the press and this may be said for the individual success of its officers. This was true of Harry Thompson. Conklin has been blessed in abundance with loyalty, integrity, and stubborn devotion from those who have served it. These are qualities of character which marked his life.
Beginning as a young man as an office boy and serving as a clerk and bookkeeper and later as Secretary-Treasurer and Vice President, Harry Thompson had but one thought, aside from the welfare of his family, until his death – this company. Harry Thompson was a valued friend to those who knew him. He will be greatly missed, but the memory of him and what he stood for will live as an inspiration for those who follow.” (Entry of the December 1953 Board of Directors minutes)
Obviously, none of us would be doing what we’re doing today had it not been for my great grandfather who came to Conklin as an 18-year old “office boy” and went on the establish a foundation for a family business that would span four generations.” — Robbie Thompson
