Oval Spiral Pipe Machine
Oval allows an for “equivalent round” of a spiral pipe diameter in specs where ceiling height is a factor. Spiral Helix offers an Ovalizer (also known as an Oval Spiral Pipe Machine) to manufacture oval ductwork. The ovalizer takes existing spiral pipe and stretches the major axis (horizontal). This means that any shop interested in making oval spiral must first have a spiral pipe machine.
By using a shorter height and making up for it with a longer horizontal span, an “equivalent” to round spiral can be reached. Oval consists of a minor axis (the shorter vertical one) and a major (the horizontal run). The machine comes standard with 8” – 18” even sizes for the minor axis. The major can extend to a max of 106”!
16” round can, thru the push/pull design of the ovalizer convert to an 8” x 20.9” or 10” x 19.8” or 12” x 18.6” You must have a spiral pipe (round) machine first.
Oval is used mostly on straight runs; then will transition to a round on the fittings as soon as possible
Advantages of Oval Ductwork
- Better Airflow
- Easier to Install
- Less Joints
- Less Hangers
- Often Requires Less Space
- Corrugation For Added Strength
- Modern Design
Ovalizer Champ Set Up List
The Ovalizer Champ Set Up List chart shows the different Oval sizes available and which round equivalent they come from.
For example, if you look at the last line on the first page “20” tubing you see across the top of the page this diameter (20”) is used to make 6” minor x 31.5” (6x32nom) this size tubing (20”) can also be used to make 8” minor x 30.4” (8x31nominal size) all the way up to 18” x 24.7 (18×25”).
This is to show that many different oval sizes all have the same performance characteristics as it all relates back to the equivalent round.
