Flagler 20 Ga High Speed

Flagler 20 ga High Speed Pittsburgh Machine

Any fabricating machine that has been made the same exact way over four decades has certainly proven the test of time. But are sheet metal shops kidding themselves not questioning why some features of a standard 20 gauge Pittsburgh Machine couldn’t have at least had one single improvement? Everything else in our world has sped up, improving productivity and efficiency, so why have HVAC sheet metal contractors given the standard 20 ga Pitts machine a pass? Especially when, if you asked anyone in the shop, they’d identify a bottleneck as that 25 ft per minute Pitts machine.

Built to the same construction specs and using the same frame as their Heavy Duty 16 ga Pittsburgh Machine, the Flagler 20 ga High Speed Pittsburgh runs the 5/16” pocket depth Female Pitts seam (seen on right) and the adjustable height (3/8” max height) Male Pittsburgh Flange (shown running on left) both at 100 ft per minute.

Unlike other manufacturers, Flagler makes each of the Roll/Shaft/Gears as three separate components rather than a 1 piece construction; this means that if one of the three needs replaced, the entire assembly doesn’t need to be changed out.

It doesn’t have to be that way with the Flagler 20 ga Hi Speed Pittsburgh machine as an option. Running at 100 ft per minute, on a machine built to size of a 16 ga Heavy Duty Pittsburgh Machine, and running the same sized pocket as the standard 20 ga, this machine has been one of our shining stars with strong sales and satisfied customers. Made entirely in Chesterfield Michigan, just outside of Detroit. We believe in it so much that we sell it with a “Right To Return at Full Refund”.

This machine has an outboard side onto which the 3/8” Right Angle Flange rolls can be mounted. The height of this Flange can be adjusted down to as short as 1/4” or as tall as 7/16”. Roll forming the Right Angle Flange (aka Male Pittsburgh) addresses another bottleneck in shops that are bending this Right Angle Flange on a hand brake or a Roto Die Hydraulic Bender.

The Pittsburgh Lock explained…

20 ga High Speed Pittsburgh Machine forms the female seam inboard, male Pittsburgh outboard (male Pittsburgh not included in price of machine)

When it comes to Rectangular Duct, the Pittsburgh Lock is considered THE Longitudinal seam in commercial ductwork. Pittsburgh Machines make the Female Pocket of this seam.

Two piece duct showing the 5/16″ pocket of the Female Pittsburgh and the 1/4″ right angle flange of the Male Pittsburgh. The female Pittsburgh always goes on the short dimension of the ductwork for ease in knocking the duct together
20 ga High Speed Pitts machine with Right Angle Flange Rolls runs both of these profiles at 100 ft per minute

Auxiliary Tooling Available:

3/8” Double Seam Rolls
1 1/8” Drive Cleat Rolls
3/8” Right Angle Flange

The amperage draw on a Flagler 20ga High Speed Pittsburgh is approx. 13 amps at 230 volts.
