This applies to it’s common use (on external Foil Backed Duct Wrap covering the gaps where the wrap butts up against one another) but also to directly to Galvanized steel duct prior to brushing on the mastic. Many Engineers spec that Ductwork be sealed using the combination of Fiberglass Mesh Tape and Duct Sealant rather than just Duct Sealant.
In regions where code is enforced MJ100 is often used in conjunction with UL-181 Duct Sealant for sealing Fiberglass Duct Board. Sticky Fab Tape is applied to Duct Board, then Duct Sealant/Mastic applied on top of it.
