Plenum Wire is run through the plenum and used for controls of HVAC system — (indoor & outdoor sensors, variable speed controls and etc). The wire has a white jacket coated with a fire retardant coating that standard wire doesn’t have and is manufactured to restrict flame spread to no more than 5 feet.
Because Plenum Cable has a high temp and flame resistance, it’s often used in lieu of non Plenum Rated T-Stat Wire in applications that would otherwise require Electrical Galvanized Conduit around the wire.
