Still made in the USA, this little machine has been around unchanged for many decades. It’s power driven, feeds automatically, and notches the full depth of the metal edge as a V or Slot pattern with a capacity of notching 16 ga Galvanized and 20 ga Stainless. Depth of V is 7/8″ but machine comes with 1/8″ spacers which allows shop to notch shorter depths – 3/4″, 5/8″ , 1/2″ and 1/4″. The Slot Notch, because it’s thinner, has a max depth of 3/4″ and also comes with the 1/8″ spacers. Machine available in two models—as a standard model and as Non Marring Feed Wheel model. The former is the most common to air conditioning contractors, the latter to sign companies. The difference in the two models is the encapsulated rubber cord on the special feed wheel which allows the notched material to remain smooth, unmarred, and without serrated impressions. For HVAC Duct Shops the standard model machine is used in tandem with a 7 station rollformer that runs the 3 in 1 profile – specifically the 5/8″ Outside Tap (aka Hammerlock or T Connection). The Rollformer always rollforms the profile prior to running the notches in a Ruoff Notcher as the Notcher only operates on metal in the flat.

The T-connection is referred to as an outside tap that is formed on the top tier of the 3-in-1 roll set and usually gets notched by hand after it is formed thru the Lockforming machine
But this is laborious so some shops use an Edge Notcher before running it thru the Rollformer OR they cut out the notches on their Plasma Table
Then run it thru the Rollformer already notched like this
